There are a number of elements that MUST be included within your marriage ceremony to ensure it is legally binding.
I will work closely with you to ensure your personalised ceremony meets these legal requirements while still remains a true reflection of who you are as individuals and as a couple.
Prior to your marriage you will need to lodge a "Notice of Intended Marriage" with your chosen celebrant.
This document must be completed, signed, witnessed and received by your celebrant a minimum of 1 calendar month before your marriage can be solemnised.
I can provide you with a copy of this Notice for completion or alternatively it can be printed from the link below.

To meet legal requirements you must provide suitable identification to enable official records to be maintained accurately.
The following is a list of suitable identification that can be accepted:
* Original Birth Certificate
* Original Extract of Birth
(and a photo identification document eg: Drivers Licence)
* Australian or International Passport (stating full name and date and place of birth)
Please note that original documents are required for sighting
- photocopies are not acceptable
- digital sighting of documentation is acceptable (scanned/email photo/text)
If either party is under the age of 18 or has previously been married, documentation will also be required to state that both parties are free to marry.
Please discuss this with me in further detail.

CHANGING YOUR NAME
It’s not a legal requirement, but if you choose to change names you only need the official marriage certificate to get started.
The certificate can be ordered about a week after your marriage ceremony (or I can arrange this for you).
There’s no formal process - the legalities are taken care of when I register your marriage - all you need to do is decide on what name (or version of surnames joined) you'd like to use and simply ask each company to update the name on your account or identification.
There will be a number of forms and different processes to follow.
If you’re not a fan of research or filling in forms then consider using a name change kit. Simply check off the companies to notify and Easy Name Change will send you a custom pack of forms. Just attach your marriage certificate and send!
